Meisel Initially we used a local recycling company that we learned about through one of our plastics contacts. This was acceptable for a while, but we quickly outgrew his ability to handle the volume and variance of material that we were generating. About the middle of 2008 we switched our recycling to Laird, with the help of the entire Laird Dallas Team. This was a great move. We have had a wonderful program now for six months, resulting in 23368 lbs of recycled plastic. Currently we have four recycling waste streams that make up this total: Coroplast, PETG, Acrylic, and Polystyrene. The exchange process is efficient, as we always have an “active” bin near our cutting area where the waste is generated, then a set “on deck”, ready to move into place when the first set is full. The Laird driver just picks up any full recycling container when he is delivering raw materials. Thus from a sustainability standpoint, we don’t use additional transportation energy to move the recycled material to Laird. It is just part of the driver’s return trip. In short, the experience with Laird has been a successful team effort so far. As we go forward, we hope to find viable recycling outlets for other materials including foamboard and PVC type substrates. Hoddy Peck |
